What We're Learning: April 2024

Reading & Writing: This month we will read and write poetry. We will begin reading Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. This autobiographical novel-in-verse explores themes we will learn more about in our Civil Rights Unit. Students will learn parts and types of poetry. They will use literary terms to describe the figurative language in the poetry they read. They will apply this to writing and performing their own poetry.

English Language Arts: This month we will begin to explore the context of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s and consider how it impacts our lives today. Students will examine primary sources and consider what actions were taken by different organizations and what struggles they faced.

Math: This month, we are exploring how to find the volume of rectangular prisms and composite rectangular prisms. We will also review all material from the year in order to prepare for the Math State Test in May.
