What We're Learning: April 2025

Reading and Writing

This month, we're finishing getting ready for the big reading and writing test for New York State. We will practice reading different stories and questions like the ones on the test. You'll also practice writing short answers and longer stories.

To help you at home, please make sure you use the computer program called LEXIA. Also, try to read for at least 45 minutes every day.

Math

This month in math, we're learning how to find the space inside box shapes (rectangular prisms) and shapes made of more than one box. We will also go over everything we learned this year to get ready for the math test in May.

Social Studies

This month in social studies, we will look at different things like pictures, sayings, timelines, maps, and videos. These will help us understand how different people saw things during the time when people moved west across the country.

Home Connection

  • Math Tip: Using an area model is a great way for students to show and check their work when multiplying fractions.

  • The 5th graders have been creating pages for their very own yearbook!  Thank you so much Mrs. Moskovitz for assisting us in this process. Families thank you for sending in baby photos of your child. We are so excited to see the published, printed copies! 

  • Reminder: We love inviting experts to talk to the 5th grade about an area of expertise, careers, and/or important cultural events and holidays. If you are ever interested in virtually sharing anything interesting with the 5th grade, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
