Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Science is an integral part of the curriculum in our school and, as Dr. Tyson points out in his quote at the bottom of the page, science plays a role in producing informed, thinking, and decision-making adults. Students develop critical and analytical thinking skills when they learn to study the world around them, ask questions, and support arguments with evidence.

Students at PS 343 learn about a number of topics in science but underlying all those topics are basic skills that include measurement, hypothesis testing (as students progress through the upper grades), the collection of data, analysis of data, and discussion. We believe that students learn best through the use of hands on/mind on activities – every activity has a purpose. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) projects are woven into several areas of the science curriculum at all grade levels.
